Roaring Fork planted bare rooted Chardonnay 101-14 and Pinot Noir 777, both clones being well suited to the terroir of Orange NSW. The vineyard is north easterly facing, situated amongst the sedimentary loams and bassalt laden soils of the Lachlan Fold Belt, and enjoys lang warm days and cooler nights. All elements that assist in building acids in the fruit, enabling it to contain clarity, delicate fruit flavours and elegant structure.
Roaring Fork vineyard was planted during October 2011, then trained and pruned in 2012. All the fruit that year was picked and discarded, assisting the vines in concentrating on establishing themselves.
The summer of 2013/2014 brings an unexpected first vintage, with the extended Smith Family and available friends helping to handpick the fruit in March 2014.
